Commissioners
Pietro Parravano is the President of the Institute for Fisheries Resources in San Francisco. He is the owner/operator of F/V Anne B, whose homeport is Half Moon Bay, California. His career in commercial fishing has shown leadership at the local and international levels, working for the cultural, social, and economic values that support commercial fishing in coastal communities. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Monterey Bay Aquarium and as chair of the fishing committee for the Apostleship of the Sea maritime ministry program. As a member of the Roots of Change Council, his work identifies and provides funding for high-leverage opportunities that support the transition to sustainable food systems, and he is a founding member of the World Forum of Fish Workers and Fish Harvesters in New Delhi, India. Mr. Parravano was appointed to the California Sea Grant Advisory Board and is also an elected official of the San Mateo County Harbor District. His dedication to commercial fishing has been recognized by San Mateo County, the California Legislature, and the U.S. Senate. He was awarded the Sustainable San Mateo County Award, the Highliner Award from National Fisherman magazine, and the Environmental Hero Award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. He holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry and a graduate degree in biology from Eastern Michigan University. Mr. Parravano was a commissioner on the Pew Oceans Commission before joining the Joint Ocean Commission Initiative.
